Reclaiming Justice: Centering Community in Reform with Dr. Corinice Wilson

An evening centered on the urgent need for criminal justice reform as part of the ongoing pursuit of equity and restoration in North Tulsa. Hosted at Greenwood Rising, the event will feature Dr. Corinice Wilson, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Tulsa Community College and a member of the Beyond Apology Commission, who will examine how systemic issues in the justice system continue to impact descendants of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Drawing from her extensive background in education, public service, and community leadership, Dr. Wilson will highlight pathways toward justice that honor the legacy of Greenwood and support long-term transformation for affected communities.


ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

DR. CORINICE WILSON

 A proud native of Tulsa, Dr. Corinice Wilson is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Tulsa Community College. With over a decade of experience in higher education

academic administration, she has held roles such as Dean of Retention & Engagement, Dean of Student Assessment and Testing Services, and Associate Dean for the School of Liberal Arts & Communication. Before joining Tulsa Community College, Dr. Wilson distinguished herself as a faculty member at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, where she was nominated for the Outstanding Faculty Excellence Award. Moreover, Dr. Wilson has served as Executive Director of the TRIO program at Rogers State University and served as an adjunct faculty member for over 19 years. 

Dr. Wilson's commitment to education extends beyond academia, having worked with several nationally recognized non-profit organizations in Tulsa. Motivated to serve others, Corinice is involved in numerous community service organizations, which include membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. for over thirty years, a member of the American Sociological Association, City of Tulsa-Beyond Apology Commissioner, OCCJ board member, former board of trustee for the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Tulsa, and former board member of Teach Not Punish.

Dr. Wilson holds a PhD in Sociology from Oklahoma State University, as well as master’s degrees in human relations with an emphasis in Counseling and Sociology from the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, respectively.

Dr. Wilson is married to Julian Wilson and has one male child. She loves coffee and great murder mystery novels! 


BEYOND APOLOGY

Beyond Apology is a community-led process and report focused on advancing repair and justice for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and its lasting impact. Developed in Tulsa between April and July 2023, the report identifies eight community priorities: Education, Systems Change, Financial Compensation, Economic Development, Housing, Land, Health & Wellness, and Cultural Identity.More than an acknowledgment of past harm, Beyond Apology is a call to action—built on generations of advocacy by survivors, descendants, and community leaders.

The Beyond Apology Commission works to reconcile, restore, and unite Tulsa by advancing economic mobility and intergenerational wealth for survivors, their descendants, and North Tulsa residents—especially in the historic Greenwood District.This work honors the enduring spirit of Greenwood and the fight for lasting justice.
