The museum’s free-admission program now runs monthly through December, opening the doors wider for Oklahoma residents.

TULSA, Okla. - For the first time since launching three years ago, Freedom Fridays will be offered every month through December.
Previously, the program ran for six consecutive weeks during February and March to amplify Black History Month. This year, leaders shifted to a second Friday of every month model to give families more flexibility.
The first expanded Freedom Friday on Feb. 13 brought in 124 visitors — an 80% increase over an average day, according to the museum.

There is no attendance cap, and museum leaders say they want as many residents as possible to participate.

Freedom Fridays is made possible through a partnership with TTCU Federal Credit Union.
Program Coordinator Brittaney Jones says the partnership aligns with TTCU’s focus on education.
“This is an education place,” Jones said. “We believe it’s important to know history — to know your history.”
Jones also noted that rising costs can keep families from cultural experiences.
“Inflation is real,” she said. “Let’s take that burden off. Do something for free. Bring your kids. Bring your family.”
Beyond Black History Month
While the initiative began as a limited Black History Month effort, leaders say the mission extends year-round.
“This history is for everybody,” Jones said. “There’s so much to learn — how Greenwood developed, what transpired, and even what’s gone past the massacre.”
Greenwood Rising marks its fifth anniversary this year. Museum officials say Freedom Fridays serves as the kickoff to a broader slate of anniversary programming.
